My Lost PC Games
The discovery of an old hard drive at the bottom of a drawer re-united me with some of the games that I never completed, and I eagerly set about trying to view what condition they were in and in some cases, getting the running again on hardware they were never designed to work on.
To do this I had to track down my registered copy of Blitz Basic, load up Virtual PC and install it. Then copy all the required files into a folder and then change all the source code to point to it. It was an interesting afternoon that brought back a lot of memories.
Much later I also uncovered a back-up DVD containing more games that have never seen the light of day. Since the last batch I have upgraded my PC, so had to go through the numerous installs and tweaks to get the code to run so I could capture images and video.
Visitors to my old website may recall a video I placed there showing level one of Transmuter, a shoot-em-up based on an old Spectrum game of the same name, this was just one of the games.

Android One Simple maze shooting game originally released by Vortex. First level complete but a few collisions not working. Antics Maze game originally released by Bug Byte. Nothing works in this verison! Atic Atac This game origianally released by Ultimate had full scrolling first level but little else. Booty My first attempt at Booty. It failed so I moved to Blitz Basic instead. Cosmic Raiders A kind of cross between Defender and Scramble, this early Mikro-Gen remake had the scrolling level but nothing to shoot. Lightforce My first attempt a this shooter. First level works but there are no aliens to shoot. Blitz Basic Games Transmuter Fully playable first level and all weapons implemented. The code was a mess and it took ages to get it working. Gun Law Fully playable but some placement issues. Not keen on this which is why it never got finished. Lightforce Second attempt at this game which gives us a fully playable first level I think. The complex movement patterns were a factor in this game never getting finished. Transylvanian Tower Re-write of the Spectrum game with rendered graphics. Level 1 completely playable (I think!). All graphics done. Most of the game engine written (I think!). You can see some of the games in action in the video below. |
